James Laban
James P. Laban, Esq., 54, of Coles Rd., Cromwell, formerly of Portland and Middletown, loving husband of over 30 years to Carolyn E.
(Youngblood) Laban, died Wednesday, (June 18, 2003) at the Middlesex Hospital. Born in Hartford on September 28, 1948, he was the son of
Dorothy (Scully) Laban of Wethersfield and the late T. Joseph Laban. Mr. Laban lived in Portland for 20 years before moving to Middletown
in 1998 and had resided in Cromwell for the past year. He was a graduate of Newington High School, Central Connecticut State University,
received his M.B.A. from University of Hartford and his J.D. from the University of Connecticut. He was employed with the State of CT Department
of Social Services as Operations Manager. He was an accomplished marathon runner having completed more than 20 races and he would always be seen
at weekend road races. He was a member of the Hartford Track Club. Besides his loving wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Jake Laban of
Orange County, CA; a daughter, Ara Y. Youngblood of Portland; two brothers, Robert J. Laban of High Point, NC and Richard J. Laban of Harrisburg,
PA; a sister, Sandra J. Bazzano of Wethersfield; a granddaughter, Autumn Pearl Youngblood of Portland; several nieces and nephews. Funeral
services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland with Rev. John F. Ashe presiding.
Burial will follow in Swedish Cemetery, Portland. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9 a.m. till time of service.
