Go teams. First to the Sunday June 3rd Simsbury Iron Horse 10K. With a 7:30 am start and the crowds at the simultaneous half-marathon and 5k, you want to get up early for this new addition to the state championship series. The grand prix moves on Fathers’ Day, June 17th at the Branford 5 Mile (10:15 start). Then teams take a break until the Guilford 10 Mile August 5th.
Close to home and very important to our Club are the Celebrate! West Hartford 5K (25th version) Sunday June 10th and our Solstice Sprint 5K Wednesday June 13th.
Celebrate! makes a very generous contribution to the Club, and you can help by running and/or volunteering. Contact me to volunteer. We need people at 7:30 for registration and at 9:00 along the course and at the finish. Running or helping, take Farmington Avenue to Raymond Road to the Isham Garage (no charge race morning).
Solstice is the next Wednesday evening, just down Farmington Avenue in the reservoir complex. Let Kelly know if you can help.
Just to be sure there is enough to do in June, the USATF Connecticut outdoor track meets for youth and adults are on Saturday the 16th. Again this year they are at Veteran’s Stadium in New Britain (exits 24 or 25 from Route 9). No on-site registration – you must preregister at www.coacho.com by June 11th.
There is a renewed push to get five-year age groups at races, especially for people 60+. Tell a board member your thoughts so the HTC can take a position. My own feelings are mixed. Good or bad, the Branford 5 Mile already has numerous five-year divisions from age 40 up.
Our Annual Meeting and Election is Monday, August 6th. Start your campaign to become an HTC officer by contacting anyone on the last page of this Newsletter.
For more cerebral fun, I heard recently the suggestion that if you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a room with a mosquito. So if you think you are too slow… How do we fill this in?
